About Our Neighborhood
Southport is a thriving, established neighborhood, where neighbors know each other and are actively involved in its betterment. We’re part of the greater Lakeview neighborhood, and comprise parts of the 44th Ward (represented by Alderman Bennett Lawson), 46th Ward (represented by Angela Clay), and 47th Ward (represented by Alderman Matt Martin).
Our neighborhood schools are Blaine Elementary School and Lake View High School – schools so great, that families move to the neighborhood just to have their kids attend. We have a fantastic children’s playground – Juniper Park – which was just renovated as a nature play park in Summer 2018. SNA sponsprs a a wonderful annual art festival – the Southport Art Festival – that provides entertainment for the whole family. We have a historic fine arts movie house (the Music Box Theatre), a theater (the Mercury Theater), a music venue (the Metro) – and countless other thriving businesses and restaurants to enjoy. All of this is within easy walking distance to public transportation – the CTA Brown Line EL stops at Southport and Irving Park, the CTA Red Line Addison EL stop, and the #152 Addison Street, #9 Ashland Avenue, #22 Clark Street and #80 Irving Park buses.
It’s really a small town within the big city.
