Corner Plot Initiative

Spearheaded by Board Member Lynne Wallack, SNA has been turning our forgotten corner plots into beautiful native, perennial gardens! Native plants (as opposed to non-native exotic plants) are best suited for the Chicago environment.  Homeowners, landscapers, and policy makers can help birds and other wildlife by selecting natives because they provide adequate food for birds, butterflies, bees and other beings in our ecosystem. They require much less water, fertilizer, and fewer pesticides than exotic plants, as well.

Take a look at our latest transformed plots at Lakewood & Waveland, Addison & Bosworth, Janssen & Byron, and Janssen and Grace.

Do you enjoy gardening? We are looking for more volunteers to “adopt” and plant a corner plot. Native plants and soil will be provided by SNA. You need to be an SNA member to adopt a corner plot, so sign up today.

Email Lynne Wallack at events@southportneighbors.com to get involved.
