Southport Green Market

This is the second year for the Southport Green Market (SGM), sponsored by the Southport Neighbors Association.  The SGM will be located at Blaine School at the corner of Grace and Southport in the center of the Lakeview community.  The market dates are every Saturday starting June 14th through October 18th from 8 AM until 12 Noon.

Southport has quickly become a destination for boutique and specialty shopping.   This market will add a great local food dimension – a true food festival- to this street and will service the many residents and visitors that make-up the street’s foot-traffic.  It will provide an opportunity for consumers to buy directly from the people who grow and produce their food and serves as an integral link between urban and rural communities.

The SGM strives to offer the freshest, locally grown or raised vegetables, fruits, meats, poultry, eggs and dairy.  The Market will also feature quality value-added goods such as artisan breads and regional specialties, and other food partners such as knife sharpening and food vendors.

The SGM promises to:

•
Support small to mid-size family farms
•
Present a broad array of food and food-friendly vendors thus creating a food festival environment
•
Promote food education for children and adults
•
Promote links between farmers and area businesses for greater sales opportunities

CSA’s will also be a part of the 2008 season

What is a CSA???  CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture…or in basic terms a pre-paid subscription to buy product from a farmer. To learn more about Southport Green Market CAS farmers, click here.
